Early Life

Zenzelisphesihle Xulu was born 6 January 1990 in South Africa. He is from Imbali, Unit 18, Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.

His parents were his “biggest support structure” and always believed in his dreams. He discovered his gift for acting in high school and started to appear in productions in grade 8. 

Xulu was never into sports and academics, so he found his love for acting during his quest to discover his true calling.

Education

Xulu went to study theatre at Rhodes University. He began to get involved in school plays. He completed at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Pietermaritzburg. He got the nickname Sparky in high school.

Career

When he completed his studies, Xulu got a job as a performer for a theatre company in Grahamstown. During his three years of work, he traveled across South Africa and visited neighboring countries.

Zenzeli­sphesihle relocated to Johannesburg to find greener pastures. He landed a lead role on SABC1’s Mfolozi Street after he landed an agent.

Since bagging his debut role, he has appeared on many other shows, including Isibaya, Isipho, and Isono. He plays Muzi in the television drama series The Herd. It airs on DStv’s Mzansi Magic (channel 161) on Sundays.

Zenzeli­sphesihle did some work with his non-profit organization, the Pietermaritzburg Arts Kollective, aka PAK. He started it for aspiring artists in his hometown. He is also known for playing Vukile Mbuli in the SABC1 drama series Mfolozi Street.

Sparky, his nickname, played Qobodo, a recurring role, in season two of the South African soap opera isiBaya in 2014. He played a guest starring role in the Mzansi Magic drama series It’s Complicated in 2015.

Xulu appeared in the BET African original daily drama series Redemption. It premiered on 26 September 2023 and airs from Monday to Thursday at 18:00. The repeat airs at 21:00 on BET Channel 129. In 2016, he played a role in Blasted at UKZN-Studio Theatre on May 18 and 21.

Xulu received an award for being the life of the party. He was also a nominee for the Royalty Soapie Awards. He played Detective Tuswa on the television series Isono.

Zenzeli­sphesihle played Locus Pocus (Bald Man with white Beard) on Supa Team 4 on Netflix. He won the Royalty Soapie Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor for his role as Siya Phakathwayo in The Estate.
