Romeo Kumalo was born on 25 February 1972 in Johannesburg, the capital of Gauteng, South Africa.
Education
Kumalo holds a diploma in business management at Damelin from 1996 to 1997. After graduation, he enrolled to study MAP – Business at Wits Business School.
Romeo completed Marketing and Telecommunications Strategy at INSEAD Graduate Business School in Paris, Canada, in 2009. From 2010 to 2012, the media mogul did a master’s in commerce at the University of South Africa.

Romeo Kumalo is an entrepreneur, media personality, and telecommunications expert. He is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with major shares in the private equity company Washirika (Pty) Limited.
The businessperson became a board member of Vodacom South Africa in 2007 and served as the Executive Commercial Director. He became a member of the Group Executive Committee of Vodacom.
Romeo quit as chief operating officer for Vodacom’s international operations at the end of May 2015. He received a payment of R4.26 million in fiscal 2016, which included R3.65 million in termination and other benefits.
Kumalo has touched many countries across the continent and has made an astronomical impact. Between 1997 and 2000, he was the General Manager of Metro FM. He left after becoming the General Manager at SABC TV. He remained with SABC for four years.

The couple has three children – Nkosinathi Gabriel Kumalo, Bontle ba Morena Jasmine Kumalo, and uShaka Kgositsile Emmanuel Kumalo. The power couple Kumalo celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary in December 2022.
