The actress became the global brand ambassador and spokesperson for Dark & Lovely. She was the first African but lost the role because of alleged questionable behavior.

Early Life

Nonhle Thema was born on 15 October 1981 to Derrick Thema and former beauty queen and actress Cynthia Shange. She has three siblings – Sihle, Archie, and Benele Thema.

Growing up, she would sit on her mother’s lap to watch her on television but didn’t think of being an actress then. She enjoyed the wealth of her parents, who are legends in showbiz. Her father was a journalist, while her mother is a former actress.

Education

Her parents registered her in one of the best primary schools. She attended Sundown High School in Sandton and studied marketing at a higher institution.

Career

Although Nonhle gained prominence for being a presenter, she worked first as an events coordinator. She and Siyabonga Ngwekazi co-hosted the daily live entertainment news show V Entertainment on the Vuzu channel on DStv.

The television personality landed her reality show Nonhle Goes to Hollywood in 2012. She was the executive producer of the show, which aired on Vuzu. She appeared in the docu-reality television series Reality Check-in 2013.

Her first acting gig was as Kgomotso in the Mzansi Magic and Mzansi Wethu soap opera Zabalaza in December 2013. She was a presenter of Club 808.

Many dragged and called the television personality out due to pride and arrogance. 

Nonhle lost ambassadorial rights, even with the hair product brand Dark & Lovely. She became the face of the New York fashion-forward shoe brand Madison.

The television personality established her company, Nonhle Thema Productions, in 2010. She was a guest speaker at the 1st Ntombam Annual Empowerment Submit 23 in East London.

The businesswoman was a guest speaker at the Siyavuna Kumnandi Social Employment Fund event in Durban. She had an interview on Radio2000 on the morning of 3 November 2023.

Personal Life

Nonhle Thema married the British entrepreneur Arthur Bolton, and they are happy. She is seven years older than her husband, but the age difference is the least of their worries. 

They met in Los Angeles when she worked on her TV show, Nonhle Goes to Hollywood, in 2010.

Thema has a daughter, Star Phoenix Ivy Zime. After welcoming her child, the actress hit the gym to regain shape. She had gained a lot of weight and had a lot of thickness to lose. Her mother reminded her of her past look.

At eighteen, Nonhle had a tongue ring right after high school and a belly ring at twenty-one. She is a Christian.
