David Mashabela (born 1975) is a South African radio presenter, DJ, and podcaster. He is best known for hosting The Royal Playground on Radio 2000. He is also the director and producer of Telkom Monate Vibes (Season1-4) on SABC1.
The presenter has entertained many with the King David Podcast. His friends and listeners know him as King David Mashabela. He also calls his listeners kings and queens. He connects well with his listeners and uses soothing words to comfort them.

David Mashabela was born in 1975 in Mamelodi, Tshwane. He has always been in love with radio since grade 11. His nieces and nephews’ belief that nothing is impossible inspires him.
The presenter was selected to be the MC of an event. The response from the audience boasted his confidence, thereby making him comfortable. So, he started to seek jobs that would lead him to similar events.
David studied for a BA in economics and industrial psychology at UKZN. He obtained a B Admin degree from Westville University in Durban in 1995. He completed a master’s in business degree (MBA).
His thesis was “How Effective Government Communication Can Have an Effect on Unemployment in Gauteng”. He has acquired marketing, advertising, communications, and radio skills since 1998.
David began to freelance as a weekly radio columnist for City Press. He later joined Metro FM, first as the producer on the Breakfast show. He later became the producer of The Afternoon Drive.
King David spent six years at Metro FM, which led him to acquire engineering and radio creative skills. He started to produce radio adverts and offer a full-service recording facility. He became the Creative Director for SABC Radio Sales.
In 2010, Mashabela joined Radio 2000. He has features such as Thola Coffee and the Morning Fourplay at 10.30 am. He hosts The Royal Playground on weekdays from 12 pm to 3 pm.
Mashabela started his advertising career in client service at Saatchi and Saatchi. He spent six years managing relationships between the creative agency and clients. He has also co-chaired the MTN Radio Awards steering committee.
For over twelve years, he has run the communications firm Mashabela Creatives. Radio and communication will always be his true passion. He delivers his podcasts through King David Studio.
